Im wiring in a towbar. need schematics/wire colours for rear lights please?



When installing towbar wiring there is no need to tap into the rear light wiring.

The Focus MK3 uses a CANbus controlled module for the towbar wiring. Towbar preparation was optional on the Focus MK3 and was no longer fitted as standard.

If the car has the towbar preparation option the required wiring is factory fitted. In this case the module can be simply plugged in into the existing wiring harness. If the car does not have the towbar preparation option an additional cable is required that connects to the OBD connector (CANbus) wiring at the front of the car.


It is strongly recommended to not use a generic wiring kit or bypass relay. I know several examples that resulted in bulb failure warnings or even damage to the BCM.
