Fiesta to return as an EV?

Featured Replies

Several stories on this seem to have appeared over the last few days:

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/ford/fiesta/366695/ford-fiesta-return-icon-could-be-reborn-re-nosed-volkswagen-id2

https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/34753036/britains-popular-car-ev-reborn/

Clearly it would be heavily based on VWs forthcoming ID2 https://www.whatcar.com/news/new-volkswagen-id-2-electric-car-to-cost-less-than-pound21k/n25592 but could still be an interesting possibility.

Ford seem to have made a decent job of adopting the VW platform for the Explorer - reports indicate that it's a better drive than an ID 4 - and might pull off a similar trick here.

I'm a long way from going electric, but the only EV on sale yet to get my interest is the Renault 5/Alpine A290 and I'm not convinced they would work for me on range. (Claimed 260 but nearer 160-190 in mixed driving in reality from test reports). VW generally seem to get nearer claimed range so the ID2 (or e-Fiesta) at 280 look more interesting, but still well below the ICE Fiesta.

I remember reading that a few years ago

from 2023 - Electric Ford Fiesta on Volkswagen platform remains possible | Autocar

"Ford's European boss Martin Sander has again hinted at the lingering possibility for such a car to become reality - having previously suggested to Autocar the project was not completely off the cards"

He's now moved to VW by the looks of it

Yes, I remember the story coming out a couple of years back, then it went quiet and now starting to re-surface.

The costs of designing new small car platforms to meet today's safety and environmental demands must be staggering so a partnership makes sense, as Nissan Micra/Renault 5:

It's be good if Ford could come up with a bit more differentiation than Nissan apparently have here, though, as they have with the Explorer vs ID4.

We've got a 2024 Audi e-tron. It's supposed to do 333 to 349 miles on a full charge. Absolute rubbish. The best we ever got out of it was 250. and if it's really cold it won't do that.

I think you should take all the advertised ranges with a very large pinch of salt.

That's a saving of £2.97 per reduced range with the new 3p per mile tax. 😉

I'll stick to diesel thanks

Interesting. Ford press release here:

Hope they find a way to increase the (actual) range from the Renault or that's also a "non" from me.

I can't say that Renault was on my list of potential car purchases, I felt a lot more comfortable about a Ford/VW partnership.

See where that got them. Capri and explorer. 😂😂
