MK3 1.6T whistle when coming on boost / suspect hose?

Featured Replies

Hello. Our 1.6T has started to produce a whistle when coming on boost. It lasts for about 1/10th of a second and then stops. There is no impact on performance and the car has not been modified.

I suspect it's a split vacuum hose. Upon inspection I did find a rubber tube that wasn't pugged into anything. It's about 12 inches long and is capped at one end. The part number on the tube is av6r-7a245-ha. Searching online takes me to  biparts.com.tr/urun/ford-boru-havalandirma-av6r-7a245-ha but it doesn't actually tell me a) what this pipe is and b) where it should be plugged in.

I've checked around the engine from the top, taken the air filter box off, removed the big thick hose that I believe feeds the turbo and still can't find where this pipe should go!

any suggestions please? thank you !!

Hi,

That's the gearbox breather pipe.  Nothing to do with your engine noise I'm afraid.

ahh, thank you for clarifying!!

Funnily enough, I have the same engine and I found my gearbox breather pipe unplugged. Must be a common thing as its only a push fit. Not sure exactly what it does either. Have you checked all of the plastic pipework from the air intake for any signs of cracks or splits?
