Check engine went away after a 500miles roundtrip

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a puzzle for you all. Since September last year, I started to gradually use our focus less and less.

Before that I did bigger distance trips but then it shrank to school rides and traffic heavy commutes less than 30K.

Already in December the check engine was on, I visited my local mechanic in January who confirmed some DPF errors.

He deleted the error codes and after a bit more than a month and half, it came back (P2000:00-E8).

No other symptom or side effect but still low mile usage around town.

Last weekend I visited my old town with a 500 miles roundtrip and the other day morning the check engine light is gone. It's now couple of days in but still no check engine.

Question 1: can the error be simply due to not enough long distance trips to do its dpf regeneration and hence the check engine?

Question 2: I read in this forum about a 100 mile DPF regeneration cycle estimate, does it mean I am safe in the next 100 mile but after I can again expect the check engine if I don't use the car for proper distances?

Thanks a million!

Yes

Yes, if you're not using it anymore, I would consider changing to petrol. Once you start getting DPF issues it will cost you a fortune.
