Best portable tyre inflator

Featured Replies

After many years I need to replace my inflator for my focus

any suggestions? Not silly money?

thanks

I can't recommend any particular brand but previously the inflators that I used clipped onto the Valve but my current one screws in and you lose a lot of air when undoing it.

I don't know if it is just the one I have but I will get a clip on one the next time I buy one.

I have recently purchased "AstroAI Tyre Inflator Air Compressor 12V DC, Digital Car Tyre Pump 150 PSI, Preset Tyre Pressure & Auto Shutoff, Electric Air Pump for Car Tyres, Bicycles, Other Inflatables (Yellow)" as my back rear drivers side tyre keeps loosing pressure, after a few days it drops to around 26/27psi and I then add air using my Michelin tyre inflator but recently it has started saying error and cutting out and also seems to struggle to go above 34psi, upon a quick google the error is likely a issue with a valve or something inside the inflator, I've had it for probably 10 years at least so I decided to take a change and get the above tyre inflator to try as it is small and wasn't too expensive, I think no more than £20 so worth a go to see if any use.   Not tried it yet as only recently inflated the tyre.

Can't hear any air coming out and when inspected previously by local garage, noting in the tyre so I'm wondering if maybe the valve but not too sure as don't hear much coming out.  My existing inflator also had screw on cable but I bought a couple of the adapters (URAQT Car Valve Lever Plug Air Chuck, 2Pcs Brass Tyre Valve Air Pump Clip, Car Pump Accessories Thread Nozzle Adapter, Tire Air Chucks Open End Inflator Valve Connector for Car Truck (8mm)) that I screw on and it enables me to then clip it on to the valve, works reasonably well.

I use the Good Year digital tyre inflator, I've only had for a few months, works well for me, set the pressure and stops inflating when pressure is reached, the nozzle clips on to valve, recharging is done by the USB cable supplied.

Is that a battery inflator?

I've got a cheap Chinese battery inflator and I couldn't recommend it to anyone.  Takes ages to charge.  Takes ages to inflate.  And if it's not used for a few months loses all charge in storage.

Recently I ended up borrowing a cheap Chinese 12v inflator which was much more efficient.  Wish I'd bought one of those instead of the battery version now.

Perhaps the branded ones are better though.

That depends on the stamina of the operator!

Have had this Michelin inflator for over a decade, not sure it's still available, but with built in LEDs and digital gauge with auto switch off, is 100% reliable...

100 dollars - overpriced!

I have seen good reviews on the Ford inflators that come with the sealer for the cars with out any spare.  I have two, but never used them, I tend to use the Dunlop Minor.  It was my Father's, so probably the best part of 70 years old, and I replaced the spring and leather washer about 5 years ago.

Re-reading Kev's post and his reference to the Michelin, I did have a Michlin foot pump - rubbish.

No it's not a battery inflator, it's a tyre inflator, it does have rechargeable battery, my previous tyre pump is a foot pump, I still have that.

I think this gadget inflates AA batteries into D cell size... 😂

That looks exactly like the one i have.... Mine now struggles to inflate above 33/34psi and also randomly says error on the display and turns itself off.  I believe its a small part inside faulty which could send off for repair but decided not worth it and bought a cheap one now.  Trye was at 32/33, now dropped to 30 so might the new one over the weekend, depends how things go.

The other advantage of a 12V inflator is that it does not have a Lithium Bomb Battery....

True, that was something I considered at the time.  But realised my phone, laptop, jump-starter, window vac, cordless drill, cordless screwdriver and impact gun all have lithium batteries anyway.  Can't really avoid them nowadays.

In my flat, I suspect pumping 3kW through sub-par wiring and switch-plates for 7 hours a day to heat water is more of a fire risk.  (Not that I'd rather have flammable gas pumped around the place either!)
