I tried once, it's baked in (the computer thinks there is an issue if you try to disable it) so can't do, new toms sensors are like £20 for a pack of 4 off ebay

TPMS is a legal requirement, and I could be wrong, but if disabled, would be an MOT failure...

Why would you want to delete this really useful function anyway? I clearly remember the first time I heard about TPMS (in 1986 with the launch of the Porsche 959) and couldn't wait to have such a feature in my car. Imagine knowing the pressure in your tires without getting out of your car!

That's an interesting point but it's not quite that simple.

In NI it's a definite fail if the light doesn't show with ignition and then go out within a few seconds.

Over here the wording is slightly different, and only suggests a fail if the system is 'obviously not functioning' which to me suggests a permanent fault light showing, rather than a light never showing at all...

Yes, that is interesting. With it being a legal requirement (for certain aged cars) would it not be an 'obvious' fault if the TPMS indication didn't alight on turning on the ignition?

It wasn't a legal requirement until a couple of years later than the MOT regs suggest should be checked.

The regs suggest 2012 onwards should be checked.  However I had 2x 2012 cars without TPMS as standard, but obviously they can't be failed for something they never had.

I believe it was 2015 when it became a requirement on every new car over here, but the MOT manual doesn't mention that date at all.  I remember you've said the NI testers computers show what each car was fitted with from new, but I've never seen that in England, unless it's come in within the past 5 years.

If the tester isn't absolutely sure of the system malfunctioning, then they should pass and advise it.

The fact it was part of type approval for cars with first model year 2014 and on means that it's hard baked into the firmware so if you disable it in the forscan menu's it then causes the computer to fail the checksum and throws and error, as everyone above me says it is also a MOT requirement for it to work. When I tried disabling it, it was because at the time I didn't realise you could get them from eBay for so cheap and that they would actually work and I was being quoted £100 per sensor by ford and by the tyre shops.
