Focus 2018 1.5 TDCi Engine

Featured Replies

I'm in the process of buying this car, and have been assured that the engine chatter while accelerating is normal.  Never heard this before on any diesel I've driven.  It's a metallic/rattle sound.  Can anyone advise if this is normal please?

Hi,

2018 is a crossover year between two different marks and two different engines.  Can you confirm whether this is a late Mk3 or an early Mk4?

Is this a high mileage vehicle ?

Before we can offer any advice we need to know the answer to Tom's question as to which model Focus it is.

It's the Mk4 I believe, mileage is 68,000.

Oh dear.  The cam-chain is probably about to snap.  Becoming very common on this engine now.

Yes have to agree with Tom. The cam chain should be replaced as a matter of urgency.

If you manage to get whoever is selling you the car to replace the cam chain, make sure they replace it with the 8mm chain. Otherwise walk away from the purchase.
