Installing lower front bumper side spats.

Featured Replies

I'm hoping someone can clarify for me here.

I am wishing to install the lower bumper add on (or otherwise known as spats) that were standard on the Zetec S trims to my Zetec.

Am I good just to buy the lower part (pictured) and attach it to my existing front bumper? I'm aware I will have to put new holes in or superglue it in which I'm fine with as long as it doesn't come out looking like a total bodge job.

Spats are at the back, that's a front spoiler. Tiger Seal or similar should do the job - probably have to grind the clips off the spoiler as in this old thread about doing this on the Mk 7.

Don't know if you are lowering the car? - body kits/spoilers can look a bit odd if not.

Incidentally, your earlier posts about engine type didn't mention the wet belts having been changed? Overdue if not.

As Eric pointed out.... there held in by tabs with metal clips..

I was intending to fit mine two weeks ago but I sprayed and cleared my front spoiler and put it in the shed to cure and someone in the house hold put a chair up against it and rippled the paint in a spot (no confessions yet 😑

So if you would like pictures of how it attaches to the bumper and modifications you have to make to install it I can take some pictures if you like.. as I still haven't fitted it yet as I need to fix the paint again 🙃

But in essence you will need some 3m tape and tiger seal as Eric mentioned.

And rough up a few areas for better adhesion to the bumper

For all the chew on that you'll have, as well as the cost of the front lip spoiler, it's probably more cost effective to just buy the complete front bumper from a breaker.

I got mine for very cheap £35, but you are probably right I seen then normally with bumper go for £150 and that's a fair price if same colour of the car 👍🏻
