Ford Focus Mk4/4.5 Multicolor Ambient light

Featured Replies

Did any of the Mk4 or 4.5 come with multicolor ambient lighting? I've been looking around, and I can't seem to find any car that actually had multicolor ambient lighting.

So far my conclusion is that the Titanium models came with single color (light blue, like the buttons and such) light in the front footwells and in the front doorhandles and front door pockets. The rear had no lights at all.

I am asking because I am tinkering with the idea of retrofitting ambient lighting to my Mk4, but I can't seem to find doorhandles with the multicolor LED's in them. Another concern is if it is possible to enable the multicolor ambient lighting in the APIM, but there seem to be mention of it, when looking with Forscan - If anyone has tried enabling it, let me know if the menu is working.

I know companies like Flickon sells kits, but they seem really expensive, and whats the fun in just paying to have it work 😛

A guy over here, bought multicolor LED's (Granted for a Ford Escape), but he didn't provide any partnumbers: https://community.cyanlabs.net/t/help-with-ambient-lighting-retrofit/10117

I am looking for the partnumbers for the doorhandle LED's, door pocket LED's and the footwell LED's. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

So far I only know the single color partnumbers for the doorhandles are:

Left side: LJ6B-14E073-AB

Right side: LJ6B-14E072-AB

I had a Mk4 Active X Vignale Edition with multicolour ambient lighting.

Yes, as Tom has said above.

Here is a parts catalogue of the Mk4. Just as an example the drivers door (RHD) internal door handle with multi-colour ambient lighting is 2310006

Fantastic! So they do exist. I guess they're just not all that common. Did you buy yours from new? Was the multicolor ambient lighting a specific option, or was it part of the Viginale package? I appreciate the picture, now I know what to expect 😃 One more question, the buttons in the car, like on the steeringwheel and climate control, doesn't follow these colors right? They stay the Ford "Ice blue" regardless?

What a great link, now I definitely don't have an excuse not being able to find the part numbers, that page has them ALL. Thank you.

I also have to correct myself. The part numbers I gave for the doorhandles is wrong. I forgot that the two handles I've already bought second hand off Ebay, were from a MK3 Ford Kuga which uses the same doorhandles.

The Mk4 did as a pack. The Mk4.5 didn't at all.

Yes, I did buy the car new.  It was standard on the Active X Vignale Edition trim level but these were only a very short production run.  I'm not sure if it was standard on the normal Vignale.  It was not standard on Titanium X which I had before the AXVE.

I don't own the car anymore so can't check, but as far as I remember the climate control & wheel buttons did not change colour.

It’s def not standard on Titanium X or Mk4.5 Vignale edition.
Also the MK 4.5 Focus Vignale edition is actually a Titanium X Vignale.

Mk4.5 Vignale are Titanium X spec, but with Vignale little tags on the front seat, Vignale scuff plates and extra shiny trim bits

Mk4 Vignale was the last true Vignale built spec cars with the bells and whistle features as standard.

My ST has multi colour so I can check things if needed.

It’s the front door handles and pockets, storage area in front of the gear lever, cup holders and footwells that change colour. All buttons stay ice blue.

Interesting. So multicolor was never offered in the facelifted model? I think I did read somewhere, while snooping around the internet for information about this, that the Ford Escape also suffered the same fate in the facelift 2024 version, which also had multicolor ambient lighting removed as an option.

I suspected that this was the case, thank you for confirming! Could you tell me if the ambient lighting does something when you open doors, like switch to red color on just the open door? I believe I read somewhere that some of the older Focus' would do something like that? Or any other funky things that are worth mentioning about the system.

From the link that Unofix provided, I have compiled the list of parts that would be needed to add multicolor ambient lighting (Obviously apart from running wires, since Ford likes to save every place they can and not just put in a full harness...)

  • Location -------------------  Ford no  ---- Part number
  • Center console pocket       - 2199655 - JX7B-13E700-HB
  • Center console cup holder - 2195869 - JX7B-13D775-AA
  • RH Footwell                         - 2195928 - JX7B-13E728-BA
  • LH Footwell                         - 2195918 - JX7B-13E728-AA
  • RH Door pocket                  - 2266604 - JX7B-13E700-NA
  • LH Door pocket                  - 2266609 - JX7B-13E700-PA
  • RH Door handle light          - 2258848 - JX7B-13E700-LA
  • LH Door handle light          - 2266600 - JX7B-13E700-MA

Important to note, the part numbers for the door handle lights, are ONLY for the lightguide and the LED, and do not include the handle itself. It looks like the handles has the clips to hold the light, but the hole for light to shine into the handle is missing. This may be able to be cut and thereby saving having to buy the entire handle. I will test this at some point.

I think the next step for me is to get in touch with a Ford mechanic and get some prices on these parts, to see if it is remotely viable to just order them without breaking the bank. Otherwise it might be time to just enable it in the car, and do some LIN line sniffing, and implement a solution myself. The main thing is it HAS to be able to be controlled by the OEM controls.

If the engine is running (or probably just ignition on) the lights on the door will change to red when you open it otherwise once engine is off it all reverts to ice blue and stays that way even if you open a door. The colour changing is only available with the ignition/engine on.

Progress has been made! I have sourced all the lights from Ford - It wasn't extremely expensive, but a little more than I wanted to spend, but nevertheless now I have them. I have fitted the footwell lights, cupholder and center storage lights, and ran all the wires. I figured this was a good state to test, before taking the doors apart. I have configured my APIM module to show the ambient light menu, and was hoping Forscan would have an easy way to configure the BCM to "know" that now multicolor ambient light needs to be controlled via LIN, but no.

Right now, I have no lights at all, and the multicolor menu does nothing (Selection and sliders work, but the lights stay off). I have a strong suspicion that the BCM needs to be reconfigured.

Do you happen to have an as-built file for your BCM? I would be interested in seeing what differences there is. Or even better, if someone knows what bytes needs to be changed to enable this on the BCM 😉
