Car struggling to start and stalling when clutch down.

Featured Replies

My 2004 ford focus 1.6 mk1 has been find for the first 4 months with me owning it, only has 40,000 miles on it with one previous owner. However, about 3 weeks ago I went to turn on the car and it wouldn't start, eventually after fiddling with the key for a few minutes it turned on but when driving home at a roundabout I put the clutch down and the car completely turned off with the oil light, battery light and the engine warning light and the car wouldn't start until fiddling with the keys again. I thought this was a possible low oil problem so topped it up in the morning, however the problems got worse and car would take ages to finally start and when it did when putting down the clutch for over a few seconds the revs would drop and car would die. Eventually had to tow it to a garage when the car would not longer start and they ran a ECU fault code test and told me it was a problem with the main key and the immobiliser??? They recommended me to use my spare key and it would be fine. It worked fine when leaving the garage however the same day the car started to act up again the previous problems can't arriving. Ive taken it back to the same garage to have it looked at and they've had it for two weeks and not done anything yet. I am really looking for someone help as I've been carless now for a while and indeed of it back lol. Really appreciate any help or advice (probably better than any the garage has given)

Edit - sorry misread, ignore this post.

Most likely the immobiliser receiver in the steering column is going bad or has a bad connection
