As I am looking for a C-Max people keep telling me to try looking for a Focus too as they are very similar cars. Is there much difference in drivers leg room space between a C-Max and Focus ? 

Our previous C-MAX (and current S-MAX) are what we'd call "step in" rather than "step down" i.e the seat height is further off the ground and the seat height above the floor is higher than saloon Focus (or Mondeo)

We have found that even SUVs which are bigger and taller don't have that seating position which we much prefer.

Suggest you try Focus yourself to compare and decide from there (we wouldn't have anything else but the choice is now very limited)

C and S-MAXes are much more practical IOHO.

Seating position is very different between 2008 Focus and 2014 Focus.

As Tom points out, this time period spans Mk 2 Focus/Mk 1 C-Max and Mk 3 Focus/Mk 2 C-Max.

No right or wrong answers here; it's personal opinion so strongly recommend having a try in anything of interest if you can.

We had a Mk 2 Focus 2.0 TDCI and a Mk 2 C-Max 1.6 Ecoboost. Both very comfy cars, my wife preferred the higher seating in the C-Max, I preferred the Focus.

The C-Max is ultimately a bit more practical (but not as much as I'd expected, tbh). I'd definitely recommend the 2.0 diesel in the C-Max in preference to petrol, unless your mileage is very low.

We don't need that size car nowadays, as you can see.
