ABS & Skid Prevention lamps

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2015 Focus Ecoboost has started showing the ABS & Skid Warning lights on dashboard with ‘Automatic City Stop Not Available message and Hill Start Assist Not Available message; both messages go if I press the OK button, but the ABS & Skid warning lights stay on.   The stop/start function has not worked for a couple of months, but the messages have only started this weekend.  The car still has the original battery, so 10 years old, but it starts everytime without cranking.  I don’t use the car everyday, sometimes a week goes by without it being started.  Has anyone else experienced this situation, or could offer some advice please?

Very likely it is a failed ABS wheel speed sensor, quite a common problem as vehicles get a little older.

You need to use FORScan and a vLinker FS cable and read the Ford specific DTC's which will tell what the problem is. If it is just the ABS wheel speed sensor then the part is about £28 and 30 minutes to fit.

Hi Rob, Got exactly same issue, Orange warning lights on and off intermittently - abs, park assist, hill start etc etc all concerning the brakes. Got good advice from other members; start with simplest things first. When driving switch off ALL optional electronics - heater, aircon, blower etc; notice if the warning lights don't come on so much was as the case with my 2016 Focus Estate. If so, it's likely to be low battery. Disconnect and recharge the battery. Amazon sells the AA 4A Intelligent Battery Charger, I bought one and its charging right now as I type. It always started fine, everything's ok until warning lights come on. I am surprised how low the battery was when it started charging - one bar out of five on a full charge.

If battery charge is ok, it may be necessary check the Sensors - remove one wheel at a time, disconnect the electrical connector (on top of the drive shaft just behind the hub) - check its clean/clean with surgical spirits. Remove the Sensor, clean replace and reconnect, do to all 4 sensors. Check Park assist sensors on the rear bumper are clean. Hopefully this'll save dealer/garage costs.
