Ford Focus MK2.5 cruise control activation

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

Does anyone here know anybody that can point me to the person that can activate (or give me info on the software I need )Cruise Control on Ford Focus MK2.5 ? I have swapped steering wheel for the one with controls factory fitted, done the checks , it’s all connected. Just need someone with the software to activate

regards Lubex

Do you have a windows laptop?

It's easy to do yourself if so.  Just 3 tick boxes on ELMConfig.  PCM, GEM & HEC.

Thank you TomsFocus for replying !Yes I have! Could you elaborate more?

You'll need to buy a modified ELM327 cable with the HS/MS switch on it.

We used to recommend Tunnelrat but they no longer sell them unfortunately.

Then download ELMConfig.  Go into each page for HEC, GEM & PCM.  Save your original file.  Then tick the box for 'speed control' (or similar) on each page and save that to the car.  If anything goes wrong then just upload the original file that you saved from before.

Sorry I am not very familiar with this, can I buy any ELM 327 cable from eBay for example and what do you mean by “modified “?

would you be so kind and help me with choosing one that would work?

Modified ELM units have a switch added which lets you access the whole canbus system which is split to HS high speed and MS medium speed. Canbus speeds are accessed through different pins on the OBD port so you need a physical connection switching over for the ELM unit. Different modules are on different parts of the canbus network so you need access to both.

Out of the box the ELM units are only wired to connect to one speed of the canbus network just can’t remember which.

Modified just means the ELM327 adapter has a change over switch fitted so that you can select between the MS and the HS Canbus speeds. There are a lot of poor quality and counterfeit cables out there.

This one on Amazon looks to be the genuine item:

I don't know which ones will work.  Some are very poor quality.  It's pot luck now that Tunnelrat don't sell them anymore.  They do offer some suggestions that they claim to have tested here.

There is a newer cable used for Forscan (V-Linker) but with ELMConfig being a very old program I'm not sure whether it'll work with those cables.

The modified ELM cables have a switch for HS/MS CAN on them.  The standard cables don't have that switch.  You do need that switch otherwise you can't access all of the modules.

I really appreciate your help and support TomsFocus  will go for the suggested by unofix ( thank you for the advice)

when I get it I’ll keep you posted .chances are that I’ll come back with more silly questions, please forgive me my lack of knowledge!

As well,thanks Troy

It is possible to add the switch to a standard ELM unit if you’re ok with a bit of wiring and soldering etc, that’s how I got mine sorted.

Failing that I’m not sure if you can access everything with ELMconfig if you got a Bluetooth USB adaptor to do things wirelessly?

I’ve ordered the one unofix recommended , so no need for soldering

Why wouldn't he just buy one of the ELM327(modified) adapters listed above by both myself or Tom ?

Fair enough 👍

Ok ! I’ve got the cable ,please could you give  me a link to step by step instructions ,should I use forscan? Do I need extended license?

how do I save the existing settings if anything goes wrong?

thanks

ELMConfig is better for this.  Forscan didn't have the functionality when I was doing them a few years ago.

I don't have time to write out a full guide though.  It's fairly easy to use though.  Once you're setup, click 'read file', and to save it click 'save file'.

Then tick the relevant box and 'write to vehicle'.

Hello! Im back sorry for delay in updating ( came off my bike)When I try to configure PCM I get this message, see photo below

I have to confess that initially when using different OBD reader , I was trying to configure PCM and was unsuccessful, I forgot to save original file before the procedure.

Thank you for your help!
