Ford and stellantis and oil specs

Featured Replies

After a bit of curiosity and knowing the dv5 in both stellantis cars and and fords are the same. I decided to see what the recommended oil for my car was (using total energies oil checker and Mobil checker) to my surprise it looks like ford are still using the original 0w20 oil spec whereas stellantis have moved to the 3rd spec (5w30 with the spec FPW9.55535/03) could this be the major contributing factor to the chains snapping more frequently on fords than they do on stellantis (which are still plagued by it but it's not as bad).

When the DV6 first came out as a joint venture between PSA & Ford in 2004, PSA used low SAPS oil, while Ford just used their standard oil.  There were more DPF issues on the Fords than the PSA's...  Ford never did change the spec for those.

In other words, ignore ford's recommended oil and go with what stellantis recommend and then the 7mm chains on the engines that still have them might last a bit better.

Well, I won't go that far.  There might be other issues from the thicker oil in future.  But I would say make your own judgement rather than simply relying on Ford specs.
