Electric windows - slow operation

Featured Replies

2022 Fiesta ST3 3-door

I note that the operation of the electric windows is very slow.

I have previously owned two ST3s (2017 and 2019), both 3-door, and never noticed how slow the winding is.

Strangely, the speed sometimes varies (battery charge?) but always still slow.

Not really a bother to me, just wondering if this is a feature (small motor) or a bug?

cheers

W

I believe the mechanism was changed as part of the cost down (but price increase)

Can't say I find mine particularly slow, though I rarely need to operate them anyway and slow is a subjective term.

Might seem slow because they're only one touch (down) on the drivers door only so we have to keep pressing the button for everything else?

yes, slow is subjective; but they are objectively the slowest mechanism I have ever seen in any car! (including previous ST3s)

I certainly wouldn't say that, so maybe an issue, then!

There are several other Mk 8.5 Fiesta owners on here, so hopefully someone else may comment (Assuming they see the post - it's in the Focus section?).

Open the windows and spray some Silicone Lubricant down the Tracks a few times, it may help.

It's a good idea to do that anyway a couple of times a year to prevent future problems.

ordered the lube. Just apply it down the tracks around the sides of the window frame?

I did a quick search, and there was a lot of palaver about taking the door trim off? Is that necessary?

Yes and maybe put the Window back up and down and do it again. Silicone is also a Rubber protector, I spray some onto a rag and wipe all the Rubber Seals a couple of times a year also - I've never had Door Rubbers fall off on any of my cars.

It shouldn't be necessary on a car of that age. If the resistance was very bad the Fuse would probably blow.

I've had a Door fall off my Mk1 Escort 🤣

I had the same with a Mk2 Cavalier, but the Rubbers were fine - serves me right for buying a Vauxhall.

ha  - when I was 18 I bought a 1.6 auto 2-door MK5 cortina (rare as hens teeth.

Middle of winter, so I didn't think to roll the windows down. Got to spring, and noticed the window didn't work.

Took the trim off and there was no mech, the door was held up with a block of 4x2!

And could I find a replacement mech. Nope. It was murder in summer not being able to roll the window down.

When I sold it, I was praying the bloke didn't check the windows. He didn't.
