Ford focus A/C issue

Featured Replies

I just bought a mk3 focus 2013 titanium X and on the way driving it home the ac was blowing warm, I had it scanned today and got B1A61:00

cabin temperature sensor.

could this be the reason the AC is blowing warm.

The AC gas has probably leaked out.  Worth having that checked first.

Cabin temp sensor might cause issues, but it should be disregard the sensor if you set it to 'Lo'.

I had the gas refilled right after getting the car home to rule this out.

Fair enough.

Temp sensors are the next thing to look at then.  There are at least two on a Focus Titanium X because of the dual zone climate control.  One is by the driver's knee, that one often gets clogged with fluff.

It was clogged with fluff, cleaned it out still no cool ac, I have purchased one from a breakers to try rule out that issue before contacting the dealership, want to do my part before going back. Not sure where the other one is though 😂 purchased a usb obd2 cable due tomorrow so I can check the values myself instead of having to wait on friend.

Phoned dealership, was giving an “AC was not tested and is not covered under warranty” response when the adviser I spoke to stated ‘ice cold ac’  GREAT. Second car, second bad experience 🥲

I've bought over 30 used cars, most of which were a bad experience.  I then bought a brand new one (well, financed) and that was also a bad experience.  Then again, my experience with renting property hasn't been a positive experience either, so maybe I'm just unlucky...

Legally, you do have rights to have the AC repaired if you want to go through the hassle of legal action with the dealership.  Their 'warranty' is only in addition to your legal rights.

Oh, so I am covered for the ac ? Thing that seems weird is that they gave me no warranty information or aa breakdown cover information despite it being an AA approved garage which states aa breakdown cover with all vehicles

You're covered for pretty much everything legally.  The regulations state that any item (including a car) must be fit for purpose and function for a reasonable length of time.  It's not as simple as warranty though, you would need to go through some legal hoops first.  (Plenty of info on Google about this, not really my area).

Regarding the AA breakdown cover, you could contact the AA to ask whether your car reg is on their system now.  If it isn't, and was advertised as such, then you should request that from the dealer otherwise it's been mis-sold.

Yes, plenty of summaries of Consumer Rights, such as:

It's still a bit of a minefield as Tom says and "reasonable" creeps in with older cars, e.g. Is it reasonable to expect the condition of a 10 year old car to match a new one.

If the trader had explained that the a/c was not functioning, and you accepted that, fine. If they just advertised the car as having a/c, though, then it Is certainly reasonable to expect it, or any other advertised feature, to work.

That was an interesting read, it said if vehicle is not to specification, does that mean if it’s a trim that includes x and x is not working, the dealership would be under obligation, for example

I have a focus titanium x

and ambient lights don’t work, ambient light control module code

and reverse camera sometimes doesn’t work, camera module code.

these are both standard in titanium x I think

Specs vary over time (downwards, recently!) but I think Titanium and Tit X would have had the ambient lighting at the time. Don't know about cameras, they tended to be extras or part of a pack at first.

But in theory, anything fitted to a particular model as standard ought to work, unless agreed otherwise. However, back to "reasonable". Is it reasonable to expect every little feature to work on a 12 year old car? A significant feature like a/c perhaps yes, ambient lighting etc, possibly arguable.

Again, all comes back to how the vehicle was described and your first port of call is back to the dealer.

You have the right to reject the vehicle if not as described within 30 days, after that 6 months for a repair of a defect present at purchase, after that it's up to you to prove the defect was there at the crime of purchase.

If the dealer's not being very helpful then you could get advice from CAB or contact your local trading standards.

You need to be clear, though, about what you thought you were buying: dealer advertisement, invoice, receipt, any other paperwork, etc, and what you actually agreed to.

The reverse camera was featured in one of their images on the ad, so was screenshotted as soon as I first saw the issue, it works ‘’most of the time’ but others just flashes camera unavailable on and off like it keeps trying to reconnect. And from what I have seen if it’s the camera it’s £££
