1.5 diesel starting issues

Got a 2018 ford focus 1.5 diesel mileage 60,000. try and start it up and it wants to start won't follow through. Once I've tried to start it I've look inside the engine oil cap and it has a little bit of smoke coming out. Has anyone got any recommendations on what it could be before I take it into a garage?

    Welcome!

    Rather than try guessing (I'm well known for trying to avoid that!)...
    In these days of electronic engine management systems, there may be codes that can be read, giving an idea of what is going on.
    Suggest you either get Forscan software and a lead (search Forscan123 on here) if you want a cheap Ford specific tool OR  if you don't want to do that, you'll have to find a garage, build up a trusting relationship i.e do they diagnose and test first and not just change parts (at your expense of course!)
    Unless some Magician can fix it from your symptoms and a hint of smoke, may need more history...?
