1.6l garret turbo mk2.5 just reached 180000

Featured Replies

the mk2.5 focus 1.6l with a garret turbo is on 180000. it’s has had interim and major services every other 6 months using cooper parts. it’s just had new front arm and rear. i need to take it back in 500 miles to be re adjusted. i’ve read at 180000 the wet timing belt and oil pump belt need replacing at £700. is it worth doing? will putting that off make a difference?

any advice is appreciated it is my daily driver and i will be doing a considerable amount of miles routinely . i put 120000 of those miles on so its been drive. well.

Welcome!
Based on my reading on this forum you would be mad to ignore any belt changes, in fact for wet belts (invention of some stupid devil?) better do it yesterday?
Especially if it has never been changed (Ouch!)
The dealer prices (as ever) are silly so best look for a garage with a track record of doing the job on a  daily basis at reasonable price  - £700 seems cheap - so best find out exactly what you get for that and post it here for the experts to assess?

Thanks for your reply its a Focus Econetic Tdci 90 i can't find how many miles it lives for for the repair to be worth it

Again, only based on my readings, if it's a wet belt (would never have one) you are likely on borrowed time?
If it lets you down it will be a write off?
Can someone PLEEEEZ confirm I'm not imagining or have the wrong model or idea or something!!!

1.6 TDCI has a dry timing belt.
