Advised by @TomsFocus that others may wish to know so posting a update from this thread 

 

Today I have found out that one of the cam gears has broken. (Seems that some of the MK6's used plastic) 

This caused the belt to jump, lucky enough the bits did not cause more damage just looking for replacements (Metel set) and will have new belt fitted, Will then know if all is OK fingers crossed no more car trouble for at least ten years.
