Focus MK2.5 estate anti-squeak / coil spring

Featured Replies

Almost completed the rebuild and refurb of the rear suspension. Just got the new coil springs to put in.

Question is whether there should be a rubber anti squeak plate at the bottom (sitting in the well of the lower rear control arm)?

There is a big block of rubber at the top which is in good order and will reuse, but at the bottom, when I took the springs out there seemed to be nothing (the lower coil of the drivers side had broken off too).

But I happen to have a couple of new Ford rubber anti squeak plates for this car. These are not the thick blocks that I found at the top, but look like a bagel sliced in half.

So, should these be put in the bottom (lower control arm seat for the coil spring) or should nothing be there? The springs I took out were OEM and I am confident the originals (as only 70k miles)

And if there was nothing put there at the factory, would putting these thinner OEM rubber plates be an improvement, or a problem?

Haynes manual refers to rubber plates top and bottom but that is the hatchback. Nothing specific on the Estate.

Anyone have first hand knowledge of this?

Thanks.
