Back in a Focus after a year

Featured Replies

A year after I sold my Ford Focus MK2 Facelift, I got a Focus MK2 as a daily driver once again. Have you ever sold a focus, got a completely different car and then found that nothing else was a good replacement?

Back to a Ford Focus MK2 after a year! #ford

Congrats!

The Mk1 & 2 weren't bad cars to be honest

The 3 wouldn't be bad if it wasn't for the powershi*ts and Ecobooms either. 1.5 Diesel was a dream

Mk4 😬

No.

no you did not find a good replacement

or

Yes.  🤣

I didn't find the Focus to be unique at all.

Mk6 Golf matched the handling on the Mk2 Focus, which was meant to be the Fords USP.  (VW pulled their finger out after all the complaints about the lardy Mk4 understeer).  But the Golf still got more comfort and refinement, so I'd take that over the Focus any day.

Credit where it's due, the facelifted Mk2 Focus was much better looking.  There isn't a single good looking angle on the Mk6 Golf.  But luckily I can't see the outside from the driver's seat.  Infotainment was better on the Golf too.

When I did buy another Mk2.5 Focus, 4 years after selling the first, I was sorely disappointed by how archaic it felt...

I had also had 2x Mk3 Focus's and 2x Mk4 Focus's by that point, none of which I was particularly impressed by.  So perhaps the common issue isn't the manufacturer... :whistling:

I'm still waiting for my useless local VW dealer to get back to me on the Mk 6 test drive I requested!😃 But as it was basically a Mk 5 facelift (which I did get to drive before the dealership changed hands) I'd agree. It felt very similar to drive to the Mk 2 Focus.

My 1.6 Petrol Mk2 has never failed to start in the morning, or left me stranded anywhere since I bought it back in 2021.

The main downside I find is that it is awful on fuel usage. I average around 28 Mpg for local journeys. The tax is also up to £265 per year now.

Unfortunately it is 300kg heavier than the previous 4 door 1.6 petrol car I had. This makes it seem very underpowered. I had to replace the last car due to ulez.
