Help Needed: Custom PHF Tune for Ford Focus C-Max 1.8 – Emis

Featured Replies

Hello everyone
I'm looking for help from an experienced tuner who can create or modify a custom PHF file (including strategy + calibration) for my 2006 Ford Focus C-Max 1.8 Duratec HE with engine code Q7DA and ECU Visteon ESU-131.

My goals with this hybrid tune:

  • Pass Swedish emissions inspection (currently failed due to rich mixture)
  • Improve fuel economy and throttle response (similar to a light Stage 1)
  • Optimize everything for petrol-only use (I never use ethanol or E85)
  • File must be flashable with FORScan 2.4.18 beta + OBDLink EX

Vehicle Information:

  • Model: Ford Focus C-Max 1.8 Duratec HE
  • Engine: Q7DA – 1.8L NA
  • Year: 2006
  • Transmission: Manual
  • VIN: WF0MXXGCDM6L02165
  • ECU: Visteon ESU-131
  • Fuel: Petrol only (95/98 RON), no E85 ever used
  • Catalytic converter: Gutted, but outer shell still present and rewelded
  • O2 sensors: Both pre- and post-cat sensors installed with spacers
  • Air filter: Clean OEM
  • Engine: Fully rebuilt ~1000 km ago
  • PCM: Adaptation reset
  • No DTCs or check engine light
  • Lambda at inspection: 1.03 (Passed )

Emissions test failed due to:

  • CO at idle: 0.5% (limit: 0.3%)
  • HC at idle: 303 ppm (limit: 200 ppm)
  • CO at 2500 RPM: 0.6% (limit: 0.2%)

Current firmware in PCM:

  • UHFFAA1 – 5M51-12A650-AF
  • Calibration: C214/C307 1.8 Ni4 iB5, Stage 4, EU FFV
  • Dated: 20.11.2006
  • Downloaded from: civil.techserviceford.com

This appears to be a FlexFuel (E85-capable) calibration, but I only use petrol and it seems to run slightly rich under low load.

Modifications I’m looking for in the PHF file:

  • Leaner fuel at idle and cruise (to reduce CO and HC)
  • Reduce warm-up enrichment (e.g. -10%)
  • Delay fuel enrichment during acceleration
  • Disable or adapt post-cat O2 logic (because cat is removed)
  • Remove E85/FlexFuel-related logic entirely
  • Slight fuel/timing tweaks to improve throttle response and daily driving

🧰 Tools I’m using:

  • FORScan 2.4.18 beta
  • OBDLink EX cable
  • Flashing via FORScan, so I need a PHF file with both strategy and calibration compatible with Visteon ESU-131

My questions:

  • Can someone help me modify my existing PHF file with a leaner, petrol-only calibration?
  • Or does anyone have a PHF file that is already tuned for this engine/ECU and petrol use?
  • Any suggestions for better emissions and improved driveability?

I'm attaching the firmware files I’ve flashed so far in a ZIP archive. I can also share Live Data or logs if needed.
Thanks in advance for your support and expertise
Any help is truly appreciated!
