Low speed/gear transmission whine

Featured Replies

Hello.

Recently picked up a 2024 Focus Active X (DCT). It's an ex-demo car and had ~1300 miles on delivery. It was 1st registered Oct 2024, so about 8 months old. Didn't hear anything unusual during the test drive and same for another DCT model I drove previously. After collection and getting home, i.e., engine properly warmed up, there was noticeable transmission whine (similar to what you'd hear in manual cars of old) when hovering around speeds < 15 MPH and in 1st or 2nd gear. It's more pronounced when lifting off throttle and sounds more warbly. The sound is also noticeable (although becomes much quieter) up to around 35 MPH and sounds like a steady low pitch whine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Hopefully it's normal and not a sign of early transmission issues with the car being so new.

Thanks,

Steve

I'll try to remember my answer...

It doesn't look like you are happy with that noise and perhaps never will be?

First, as it's new, take it back and ask for it to be fixed

Either give them 1 go at that or negotiate an alternative replacement or rejection?

See Citizens Advice/Consumer/Problems with a used car, or contact their consumer specialist.

(Is garage a member of trade association or ombudsman scheme)

Need to keep records, audio, everything in writing, who said what etc.
