Fiesta diesel loss of power

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, none of the mechanics in my local area could help so i'm searching for help here.
Car info: Fiesta Zetec 1.6 TDCI (95) 2009, 200k km (regularly serviced every 10k)

My Fiesta is having a problem with "power" technicaly. When i first start the car and go for a drive the car drives excellent, pull from very down load all the way to the top on the highway, but after driving sometime and the giving it the full throttle car wont budge past 3000rpm (in 3rd,4th,5th gear, looks like it still has enough power to pull through 1st and 2nd). On the highway could have gas at 40% percent and at 100%, makes no difference, it will still stay at 3000rpm 135kmh in 5h. There are no engine fault codes of any kind , the car starts up normally no colored smokes, fuel system is okay no weird cutting of power, egr and dpf are clean. I have replaced the fuel filter just in case still the same issue, 3 mechanics looked at it nobody can find whats wrong with it. This doesnt have to necessarily after some driving but i find the car more sluggish to respond after prolonged driving of any kind.

TLDR: Fiesta becomes sluggish after some driving.

If you need any more information please let me know, i don't have many options left and this is starting to bother me a lot
Thank you very much in advance.

Welcome!
Yes but what have the mechanics tried and have any codes been read with Forscan?
If no Ford specific codes then live data PIDs will need to be inspected to find clues.
I don't know what to start to look at other than fuel rail pressures, turbo parameters MAF, MAP, air leaks in air and fuel supply pipework (smoke & vacuum test or inspection),, vacuum operation of turbo and EGR valve etc.

More history, results of the above, etc please?

That's exactly what was happening with my 2012 MK3 1.6 TDCi Focus, which was new at the time.

I rejected it in the end.

The only thing I can recommend is ensure diesel quality is good and run a few tank fulls with Archoil D-Max additive in and see if that helps.

You'll need to set up a laptop with FORScan and read the data from the sensors to see what's happening when the vehicle is in fault mode as @Shearers has suggested

That's all I can suggest too

Good luck and come back and let us know how you get on

Injectors would be my guess.  Internal resistance will increase as the engine gets hotter and make them less effective.

I dont think any of the mechanics i have been to have had FORscan. I will definitely go to a friend that has one of those fancy windows tables for diagnostics and will return to you with car data.

I dont think the injectors are the problem, because that would by symptomatic of other problems, the car work perfectly on startup and first 15-30 minutes od driving. Still i will check the just to be sure.

Thank you all for input, im will be back with some more data

Sorry for the late reply (managed to slash 2 tires somehow), i went to test the car on the highway yesterday , and it threw engine warning that went away after a minute of driving.
Also after the engine warning car became less responsive , after letting off the gas the car would be in boost for a 1-2 seconds longer the usual then start engine breaking, same for applying throtle
Reading the obd2 port engine codes are P0341 and U0073
Is faulty camshaft position sensor symptomatic of problems i have?
Thanks in advance

(will have forscan data in a few days)

For anyone in the future
I went to the mechanic and he found the issue . The issues was that that the camshaft position sensor bolt was striped and the previous owner glued it back in. So that was causing the issues. Anyway i wont be doing the repairs because car runs perfectly fine other then the 140kmh top speed and fixing it would require taking the head off and sending it to be re threaded.

Good luck with fixing your problems
