Should I change cam belt?

Featured Replies

Hi there. Just joined. Just bought a mint condition 2007 focus with 10.700miles on it. Never had the cam belt changed from new I dont think. No records of it, and anyway why would it be? Given that it’s so old, would it be best to change it?

cheers. Colin.

hi welcome i would say yes to the cam belt

Yep, probably best isn’t it. More expense but worth it. What’s the normal service interval? 80K?

its 10 years or 100.000 miles i think

Ah right, definitely due then. Thanks…Dezwez.

your welcome  😊

Interval depends on engine type.  But all will be overdue on age now.  Also some Focus engines have a chain rather than a belt in 2007.

Yes, it would be very helpful if posters included full details of the car they have.

Always makes me chuckle when people go into intricate detail about the exact model, colour, optional extras, etc when they have a generic fault that doesn't require any of that.

Then other people ask an engine related question just by giving a year...

Totally off topic - but I followed a guy in an S-Max this morning driving up the Dales. I must have followed him for 20 miles (no overtaking opportunities!) and his rear wiper was going the whole time (25°C and bright sunshine).

No doubt there'll be a query on a forum somewhere about "why has my rear wiper motor burnt out?"😀
