Lower arms replaced - clunks over bumps

Featured Replies

Well, you try your best, follow the guides and soemthing else crops up.

Put 2 new arms on NS and OS today. Followed the guides and torqued to 150nm front bolt + 90 deg, rear bolts 115Nm + 90 deg and 83Nm ball joint. This was done with the arm jacked up.

The only other thing I took off was the sway bar links to allow easier removal/installation of the old arm (like for like, cast aluminium). Ive never replaced these before, but took the top bolt out when doing the install to drop it out, before replacing when reassembling.

Am i missing something? I'm sure I'm just being terribly novice again, but I am no bodger.

I'm determined to recitfy with a little online assistance, as opposed to just going to a garage but of couse, I cant keep tinkering for ever.

It'll need tracking too after all this.

TIA!

Drop link ball joints spin.  Did you counterhold the back of them while tightening the nut?

  • Author

I did indeed. The top one I was able to hold in place with a 17mm spanner.

With both ends connected the link is solid, no movement or play at all, loaded or unloaded.

I’ve just gone around and checked it all for torque again and it’s all checking out.

I’ve attached some pics in the event of an obvious fault I may be missing.

Grateful for any help.
