strange noise from passenger side front wheel area

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So been using car ok, no issues.  Went out this morning, drove into a place, stopped, put car into reverse and then as moving back and turning the wheel was a strange noise coming from the passenger side front wheel area, almost like a rubbing sound or something, not entirely sure as never heard it before.

When I pulled out parking pay, had to go full lock and got a bit of noise them possible from both front wheels but was then ok when driving forward and turning to go round a corner or bend in road etc.

Any ideas? I had a quick look but didn't see anything obvious but I'm no mechanic.

Going to monitor it and if re-occurs will get it booked into have it looked at. I've not no lights or warning messages coming up anywhere.

Thanks

Kev

Have someone watching if the wheel moves forward and back in the wheel well when you set off and stop, if it does, then it's your lower controls arm bushes that have failed.

Thanks, will have it checked.  I have been out since, reversed out the drive and no noise at all.  nothing when going forward either.

also car is only approx. 3.5years old, do they fail this early? only done 24k miles.

When I have had a noise on full lock, on older fords btw, it has usually been from worn drive shaft UJ,s, is it only when you first start the car for the day after standing for a while, could be the noise when the front wheels loosen up from standing after being parked say, overnight, used to get that on older Fords I had.

hmm interesting you mention that.  If I drive into the drive and reverse out the next day or couple of days later, it makes a bit of noise but then is then ok when going forwards and driving normally.

This morning, I drove out the drive straight, no noise, drove to a different location first, all ok, stopped there for prob 30mins, then drove to 2nd location and it was only when i had to go full lock to the right to reverse into a parking bay, that i got the noise.  I stopped when i heard it and then moved back again but it continued.  Upon getting out, had a quick look round the wheel, nothing obvious. When I got back in about 5mins later and went full lock to go left, i got a bit of noise but then was ok when driving straight and going round corners, turning left/right etc.

Took car out this afternoon, reversed into a parking bay requiring to turn steering wheel to the left when reversing, no noise at all, all normal. Bit odd, will monitor and see if I get the noise again

Can you go to a large supermarket car park tomorrow morning before thy open  and try a number of right and left hand turns on full lock.

Only just seen this, shops all open now 😞

I'll be using the car tomorrow for work and I tend to use full lock when parking in the car park so I'll try it over a couple of days parking one side and then the other and see what happens.

As said I used it yesterday afternoon and parking in a car park and no noise at all so puzzling... surely couldn't be a "intermittent" thing as I'd of thought once it started making a noise, it would do it all the time.

Will monitor over the week and see report back, thanks.

Hi all,

Just to advise I've been using the car all week and parking in a car park on both sides to try the reversing in different directions and no noise so little puzzled but I'm about to post another thread as I've now sold the car as I'm not sure about long term keeping this car, got a feeling it will become expensive to keep.

Thanks all

Kev
