Heater matrix failed o-ring?

Featured Replies

Hi guys. New member here. 🙂

The missus car, 2015 Focus, leaking coolant inside engine bay at the join of rubber hose going into/out of heater matrix. From a little Googling, looks like it's just an o-ring that needs replacing.

Is this a diy job? Space is very limited and finding it hard to get my hand to the clip.

I have a local mechanic that I sometimes use if I have to. What size o-ring will I need to buy?

Thanks chaps.

Just requires the o-ring replacing, but was wondering if someone had any tips to get to the fitting. My hands can't quite get in there. I can buy the tool to rotate the fixing, no probs.

This guy does it, but doesn't show the bit where he takes the pipe off. He also shows what size o-ring is needed, so have sourced them.

I have been unfortunate enough to have the 'O' ring fail on my matrix twice. It's on an older Mk2 Focus. Both times professionally repaired. After the second time, I discovered this modified repair online, and if mine goes again, I'm certainly going to get it done... (Matrix pipes actually cut and bridged permanently with a bit pf appropriate hose, negating the use of an 'O' ring)

Yeah, I've seen that method used, but gonna try replacing the o-ring first, see how that goes. I'm surprised nobody on here can/will advise on this, as it seems like a fairly common failure. Maybe it's just me being too tight and not wanting to pay a garage 🙂

Well, I've ordered the o-ring and clip turning tool. Will let you guys know how I got on.

Speak soon.

I'm lucky in having a really good long term relationship with an independent garage, who coincidentally sold me the car in the first place so he always feels guilty when something goes wrong LOL I'd hate to pay main dealer prices for such a repair.
