Ford focus mk2.5 - Ford Mondeo 215/60r16 wheels

Featured Replies

Will it be okay to put Ford Mondeo wheels with 215/60/r16 tires on my Ford focus mk2.5 ? I have 205/55r16 wheels and tires on at the moment (steel)

Thanks

Think at a minimum there you’d need to have the wheel size adjusted using Forscan or similar as the Mondeo wheel/tyres have larger circumference - by 5% according to online calculator. Not sure if that’s an option you can change with the mk2.5

And offset needs considering plus clearance to brake calipers etc

Thank you for reply!

I changed the wheels, first of all on the new alloy wheels the nuts go in about 3 threads less than on the steel wheels although I think deep enough .Secondly my original steel wheels had 205/55R16 tires and when I was going 40/50mph the sat nav was showing 36/46 mph now with the alloy wheels and 215/60R16 tires going 40/50 mph sat nav is showing 39/49 mph so I think it’s all good . I’ll try to look for some info about changing the nuts but I’m not sure if that’s an option

thanks again

URGENT WARNING !!!

You can NOT use the same type of wheel nuts on alloy wheels as the type used on steel wheels. They will work lose very quickly and the wheel may come off.

Only Ford nuts intended for use on alloy wheels should be used. Note there are two different types of nuts for Ford alloy wheels: Pre-Global nuts and 'Global' nuts. They should only be used on the appropriate alloy wheel.

Read through this thread for details on the 6 different types of Ford wheel nuts.

Thank you for the warning ! I’ll will park the car up and not move it until I source the adequate wheel nuts! Again thank you for your help and wisdom!!!

ps below is the photo of the wheel, I don’t know the year of the Mondeo it came off! Any idea which type old or Global one should I source?

Thee alloy wheels are from 2017 Ford Mondeo so I guess it will have to be the Global ones.

Correct. After 2013 they all use Global nuts 👍

Below is the correct torque settings.

Thank you so much unofix , you are an angel.I’ll let you know when I get the correct nuts. If it wasn’t for your vigilance I would probably end up loosing my brand new/ second hand wheels and probably more!

Right decision to heed the important advice concerning the wheel nuts

Experience from the past with aftermarket alternatives shows a lot of care needed there too. Focus wheels have a fairly large or even oversized bore for the wheel studs. Their wheel nuts have corresponding wide bevel washer built in to match this. Some aftermarket wheel nuts look ok in theory for thread spec plus bevel washer angle etc but only give 1mm or 2mm of actual contact between the wheel surface and the nut. Can add photos if needed as I’ve got the aftermarket nuts for my 19” Oz’s

Found this on Amazon

Here’s a quick photo aftermarket the nut is about 24mm wide, the Ford version from 2010 Focus 28mm

Thank you for the photo!
I think I have found the right one, please verify if you can guys.https://amzn.eu/d/3TjNaRx

Definitely NOT those.

Your set there look almost identical to the versions I showed in the photo and highlights the difficulty getting what you need through Amazon as the spec says compatible with Ford. Does help the spec gives the diameter (24mm) which confirms them not being suitable

Better option could be these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D25BW3LW

28mm diameter and correct thread efc

However I’m not 100% about the differences with later Ford wheels and the types of wheel nuts etc so I’d get confirmation from someone else first

They do look like the ones that should fit the 2017 Mondeo wheels.

However, that table showing what models and ages they fit has to be 100% wrong. They are quoting Escorts and Sierras and then Focus 1998-2019 and we know for sure that those vehicles do not all use the same nuts.

These are the genuine Ford wheel nuts for a 2017 Mondeo:

Thank you for the comment

I understand and I think that is just an Amazon Ai algorithm making a   mistake.I checked dimensions of the nut 24 mm , 60 degree angle . They are same size as the original. I looked up many photos of the Ford global nuts/ lugs and I’m confident that they are identical . Also they are one piece not with the floating washer , which is correct. I will post pictures when I get them fitted today

Thanks again for your help
