Focus ST Line MHEV Battery Saver Mode

Featured Replies

My Focus has been in battery saver mode for a while now. Been to local Ford dealership and they have checked it over and state that there's nothing wrong. They put a service charge into the battery and that lasted 24hrs before it went back into saver mode again. I tried charging the battery at home with a Maypole charger which I was advised to get on this forum and it made not a bit of difference. Been back to the dealer and they said that even though it's still under warranty if they find nothing wrong then I'll be charged £168 diagnostic fee. Loathed to fit another battery as this one appears to be fine plus I don't want to invalidate the warranty. Am I just stuck with the car in this mode? No problems running, starting, unlocking or anything else. Just ***** annoyed......

Needs a battery.

Try taking it to a better dealer first

You could try fully charging the battery with the Maypole then resetting the BMS.  Not usually recommended as it can shorten battery life, but it sounds like your battery capacity is already low anyway.  Might be able to squeeze another 6 months out of it as long as you do long enough drives to keep it charging each time.  If you only do short drives then this is the expected behaviour.

That's the problem. Plenty of short trips but nothing really long except on rare occasions. Retired now so no commuting just local drives. I'll see how it goes. If it gets worse then I will go back to the dealer and kick up a fuss. The dealer did say that these batteries are designed for 10-12,000 miles a year. I'm never going to go that far..........
