6F15

Featured Replies

So it turns out when the ecoboom threw a rod it has wrecked my 6F15.

It also turns out that getting parts for the 6F15 is almost impossible. The few transmission shops I’ve spoken to don’t work on this gearbox for exactly this reason. Or so I’m told.

Anyway I’ve been looking around for a replacement gearbox and I’ve seen a few low milers but they are out of Ecosports. Will the 6F15 from an Ecosport fit the Focus or will the mountings be different?

That is not going to work.

The Ecosport 6F15 transmission has a different final drive ratio as the Focus MK3.5 6F15 transmission.

This will result in a warning message / DTC code and the Cruise Control will no longer work.

Got a low miler from a focus along with the torque converter in case my original is goosed.

When refitting does the converter go onto the trans first or the engine first?

Trans. Then bolt it to the flywheel once fitted to vehicle

Fully change the fluid before you fit the transmission

You will also need FORScan to install the solenoid strategy from the replacement box into your PCM otherwise your shift forces and points will be all over the place

The solenoid strategy number will be on the cover of the valve body

Also, ensue you reset all shift adaptations

Damn. Saw this post a bit late Dave.

Apparently it’s all fitted now, through mot and driving fine. I haven’t driven it yet as I’ve yet to pick up from garage. I hope he’s done all of this…..

Will it be obvious if he hasn’t? What should i look for in way of problems?

The torque converter installation is the only way you can do it

Ask if the solenoid strategy has been updated to match the new gearbox.

If you or he have FORScan and a free license you can do it yourself, it's quite easy.

The solenoid (valve) strategy and the solenoid body strategy values will be on the cover of the (black) solenoid box on the front of the gearbox.

DO NOT rub it to read it, you'll wipe off the numbers!!!

If it hasn't been done then the shift forces will be wrong and you'll get either slippage, bangs or delay in shifts

After updating solenoid strategy ensure adaptive shift learning is reset (also FORScan) and a reset drive cycle performed
