Featured Replies

ive just dropped my car off at a garage for a service and mot chatting to the guy, he checked the schedule and seen that the timing belt needs changing at 100,000 miles or 10 yrs my car has just ticked over to 119,000 i have only owned it for around 2 months or so.

checking back through the old papers, it doesnt seem to of been done. the garage have quoted me £250 for the timing belt i know it's a big, job, but am i being mugged???

thanks for any comments in advance

that doesnt sound too bad so long as it includes a full timing kit with tensioners and the lot

definitely get this done as if it hasnt been done and the belt goes, say goodbye to your engine :P

haynes recommend 70,000 miles because its such an important job, £250 for the belt plus all pulleys and tensioners needed is a pretty good price :)

£250 was the garage name P.I.Staker?

thanks @MrrNoName, @buggs(even though i dont get it) and @artscot79

i got the work done today lucky i did, because they gave me the timing belt back with a hole about the size of a 5p in it and about 3 or 4 places where the groves where missing, lucky escape, a few other things were found as well like rear brake cylinders (both sides) leaking, driver side bearing replaced (knew that needed doing) and a full service as i didnt see any evidence of a service happening for the last 4 years!!! just lucky i got the car dirt cheap!!! but at least this will with stand the motor way bashing its gets every wknd!!!

told ya. 119,000 miles is looong to run with a single cambelt your lucky it didnt snap with a hole like that in it :D

especially doing loads of motorway journeys :P
