Need help with P059F and P2096 on Focus Mk4 1.0 EcoBoost

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m driving a Ford Focus Mk4 1.0 EcoBoost and I’m currently getting two fault codes:

* P059F(00): Active Grille Air Shutter Performance – Test failed (confirmed, current drive cycle, waiting, test after last DTC clear also failed)

* P2096: Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean (Bank 1)

I understand that P059F refers to the active grille shutters and P2096 is related to the post-catalyst O2 sensor detecting a lean condition.

My questions:

1. Could these two issues be related?

2. Has anyone dealt with P059F on Focus Mk4? Any tips for testing/repairing it?

I've checked the grille shutters visually and they seem fine. I’ll try to clean them, but I’m unsure if it’s just the mechanism or if the motor is dead.

Any advice i would appreciate

Thanks a lot in advice 🙂

Unlikely they are related. The shutter problem, I think I have seen repaired in YouTube.

Has anyone noticed any difference with the shutter working or not, ours has likely NEVER worked as I have had a persistent "Lost communication" code?

I believe it is supposed to go through a cycle of checking the rotation of the grille before setting the required position and controlling from there.

Actually, I'm happier it has failed open because failing closed could be a major issue so I've just left it alone.

This is a starting point for the other code but as I've lost track of petrol, I can't comment any further:
