2012 - INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACEMENT - MILEAGE?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need to change the instrument cluster on my 2012 Fiesta as the small data screen is no longer working.

Is it as simple as swapping the faulty cluster for a fully working one? Where is the mileage data stored?

Thanks!

Nope.

@rd457 will be able to advise, even possibly be able to repair.

No, a replacement would need to be reprogrammed. Mileage is stored in the IC and changing it to a lower value is not always possible.

You need to swap out the LCD with a working one from another unit. With the type in the attached pic it's extremely easy to do.

The picture is the same cluster that I have. Sorry if a stupid question, can the small LCD screen be changed without changing the whole instrument cluster?

Yes, by someone who knows what they are doing.

Yes, that's what I just said 😉

It's actually extremely easy to do on these, not worth bothering to send to a repair person like me. A few clips hold the front cover on, remove it. Then there's another big piece of black plastic which just comes off, and you may find has just lifted off with the front cover. Then the LCD is just right there ready to be taken out and replaced. No need to take anything else apart with this model, and thus no need to mess with removing needles and refitting them properly and such. See the attached pic, there are a few bits of white plastic holding onto it, just work it out from under them and pull it out. It's easy. If you can figure out removing the IC from your vehicle, then you have the skill to get this done too.
