Infotainment Screen Cycling on and off

Featured Replies

The Infotainment screen in my 2017 Ford Focus (MK3) has been flashing on and off. (See link to video above).

There are a couple of oddities

1. It appears to dim at first, similar to what happens when you turn the headlights on at night, then goes off completely, then comes back on.

2. The system itself isn't restarting, just the screen.

3. At some points in the cycle, it is still responsive to touch controls when the screen is black.

4. Most weirdly, it doesn't have this issue on very sunny days (a rarity in Leeds).

I assume the only way to repair this would be replace the APIM but I was wondering, since it appears to work on very sunny days, do you know if there are any light sensors associated with the screen dimming function? I'd like to try to remove or change this for a known good one as a trouble shoot option but I can't seem to find anything about am ambient light sensor or if it is related to screen dimming. I'd hate to spend £200 on an APIM and spend an afternoon changing it for it to be aiming as simple as a sensor malfunctioning.

Any other ideas would also be welcome!

I searched and couldn't find any other threads with a similar issue but if there is and I missed it could you share a link?

Thanks
