High beams stuck on '02 1.8 TDDI

Featured Replies

I have an electrical problem (life of an old ford): my high beams do not turn off when my low beams are on.

I've swapped the relay, the button itself and nothing seems to fix it.

Here's the thing, if I press the button slightly as to just "flash" the high beams, they turn off - otherwise, they're permanently on.

Since the high beams can't be permanently engaged with the side lights, they work fine there too, I can just flash the high beams/hold them on manually.

Any ideas? I'll be taking it to a mechanic if there's not much else I can check.

Maybe an earth issue related to the tail lamps?

That could explain why they turn off when you flash them, as the tail lamps don’t come on at the same time but do when you’re on high or low beam fully

It does seem like I have a ground issue. I managed to get them to work fine for a tiny bit a few hours ago, but then they went back to the same old.

I'll try checking the wiring for the tail lights in the morning, thanks.
