Update SYNC 3 and Rear view camera definition

Featured Replies

Dear Ford friends,

I'm writing from Portugal and need your help.
I have a 2019 Ford Focus.
Last week, I updated Sync 3 to the latest version, 3.4, without any problems.
When checking for further updates based on the car's VIN, there was an update available for the maps. I checked my version, and it's F7.
I tried the same procedure as for the Sync update, but as mentioned, the DONTINDX.MSA file doesn't appear. I've seen in other threads that it's not necessary.
When I insert my USB flash drive into the car, the car recognizes it and the message "Indexed" appears, but then nothing else happens. This is unlike the Sync update, where a message appears saying it's updating.
Even though the message doesn't appear, I waited for a while but to no avail. Could something be wrong? I've tried three different USB flash drives.

Another issue is that the rearview camera's resolution quality is poor. It used to be excellent, but it's been bad for the past two weeks (even before the update).

Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

Check list:

  • 32Gb USB pen.
  • Formatted 'ExFat'
  • Folder manually created 'SyncMyRide'
  • outside of the folder should be the file 'autoinstall'
  • Downloaded zip files placed inside of folder. Do NOT unzip the files.
  • Insert USB in to the front USB socket in the centre consol.
  • Map update can take up to 2 hours.
  • Very little information shown on the screen to show that the system is updating.

See example in the post below.

The text file 'DONOTINDEX.MSA' is not important. It does not matter if you do not have it.

The file system looks fine.

The size of the pen drive may possibly be too large, 32Gb is known to work fine but the 64Gb might not.

I'll try to get a smaller pen drive and report back. Thanks for now.

I don't think that is going to be the problem. I updated a 2019 Fiesta and a 2022 Puma last week using a 64Gb drive.

The files on my USB drive have exactly the same names and sizes as yours.

I have noticed that map updates only work if I plug in the USB drive after the engine has been started (I usually wait about a minute after starting the engine, before plugging the drive in). I did get an "Updating System Software" message at the top of the screen almost as soon as I plugged in the USB files and for most of the time that the map update was in progress.

Thanks. I'll try that way too.

Good evening, friends!
I want to thank you both for your help.
I managed to update the maps by following pcaouolte's instructions.
I noticed that the maps now load more slowly, but it doesn't make much of a difference to me since I use Waze. I wanted to update in case of an internet or phone issue.

Have you ever had any complaints about the rearview camera's resolution?

I have another question: do you know if it's possible to enable automatic door locking while the car is moving?

Yes, quite easy. Just have a look at the attached table of enhancements.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is this? 😅
Is it a module I need to install in the car?

You need to make changes to the vehicles software using FORScan and a vLinker FS cable.

The above table shows which module and which settings need to be change to add the features you want.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

OR

For diagnostic use only:
