No Windscreen Washer Fluid Warning - ST Line X

Featured Replies

Hi all. I’ve looked in the user manual (or tried to at least) and I’ve scrolled through a lot of the historical posts on here but I can’t find the answer - does the 2020 ST-Line X have a warning when your wiper washer fluid is running low?

Today I ran out of washer fluid but I can’t establish whether the car has the capability to warn me of this or not.

My old 64’ plate titanium used to tell me!

Simple answer is 'no' it doesn't.

ST-Line X is a lower trim level compared to the 2014 Titanium.

That’s so disappointing!

And it surprises me about the trim being lower as it’s a much nicer car in terms of the body kit and the interior compared to my old focus. I wonder what else it can’t do that my old focus could 🙄

Thanks for the quick reply.

The 'X' adds a huge amount of spec on the Mk4.  ST-Line is a basic spec, but STLX adds cruise, climate, heated half leathers, sight & light pack, 4x one touch windows, powerfold mirrors, nicer wheels etc.

Washer fluid warning is an interesting one though.  On Mk2 Focus it was only fitted to cars with headlight washers.  Same with early Mk3s.  Then at some point during Mk3 production, they all seem to have got a level sensor, regardless of headlight washers.  Then it was dropped from the majority of Mk4's again.  Mk4's also lost headlight washers for the LED headlights part way through production.  But STLX won't have LED lights anyway, unless they were added as an option extra when new.

My 'weekly' top-up has ensured I have never run out, in addition to my permanent 2 liter bottle of water carried in the boot - in an old car you never know when a gulp of water for whatever reason will come in handy 😂

To be honest I cannot remember driving a Ford without a washer fluid level sensor.

My 1999 Focus MK1 Ghia with halogen headlights did have a washer fluid level sensor.
My 2005 Focus MK2 First Edition (equivalent to Zetec) with halogen headlights did have a washer fluid level sensor.
My 2013 Focus MK3 Champions Edition (equivalent to Titanium) with halogen headlights did have a washer fluid level sensor.
My parents 2012 Focus MK3 Titanium with halogen headlights does have a washer fluid level sensor.
My current Kuga MK2.5 Vignale with adaptive HID headlights does have a washer fluid level sensor.

To be fair I consider the washer fluid level sensor to be a basic feature that every modern car should have. The penny pinchers at Ford seem to run the company completely these days. Considering all of the features that were removed the last few Years I highly doubt that my next car will be a Ford.

The ST-Line has basically always been a Zetec trim level with a bodykit. The ST-Line X adds a number of options but it still remains based on the Zetec trim level which means that some features are simply not included or even available.

I agree. However it is a difficult feature to check when buying a car. I have a 2019 Fiesta Titanium and a 2022 Puma Vignale, neither of them have a washer fluid sensor.

I think the UK specs must have been different to the EU specs.  I've had:

Mk2.5 2008 Titanium (X pack xenons) with level sensor
Mk2.5 2010 Titanium (halogens) without a level sensor
Mk3 2012 Titanium (halogens) without a level sensor
Mk3 2013 Titanium (halogens) without a level sensor
Mk4 2018 Titanium (halogens) without a level sensor
Mk4 2021 Active Vignale (adaptive LEDs) without a level sensor

In fairness, my 2012 Golf with halogens doesn't have a level sensor either.  They just aren't common in the UK for some reason.

My 2005 LX doesn't have one (though I'm willing to concede it's simply faulty if you can prove it does!)

I too consider it a basic requirement, but I'm not sure Ford take on board my considerations!

The problem is that every market (country) can have its own specifications to a certain level.

This is also why you guys in the UK did still have drum brakes on some of the Focus MK3/MK3.5 versions while most other markets did have disc brakes as standard.

This may also apply to the washer fluid level sensor.

........ and for what it's worth,

my UK spec. 2019 Focus Titanium X, does have a fluid level sensor.
