Featured Replies

Hello you lovely people, Some help please if you can, I have the problem with the above and think it is the o/s rear unit.  The thing is, is it possible and ok to just replace the one or two units and reset them all or do I have have to replace all four?

Any info on which I should get also very help full.

Thanks Barrie

Hello you lovely people,

If you've never replaced any before, highly recommend to replace all 4 at the same time. The internal battery only lasts about 7 years, so you have well got your use out of them if they're the originals...

Hi, thanks for the reply will take your advice. Regards Barrie

Hi, New here so not sure if i piggy back off of this or start a new thread.

I believe one of my sensors batteries has gone. I've purchased the sensor EV6Z-1A189-H direct from Fords.

Do these need "programming" before fitting to the tyre or am i safe to get a tyre fitter to fit it to my car and then i just go through the re-learn process?

I've purchased the below, managed to put it into re-learn mode. Is it a simple case of waking the sensor to send the signal for the required wheel as and when directed by the car?

I've been looking at possibly investor in a TPMS tool. The Autel TS508WF seems pretty good and its what my local expensive garage uses who was going to charge me £278 to change all 4 sensors. I presume they have a legitimate one from the authorised supplier rather than the grey import thats available to purchase on amazon etc

Is it worth it or just an expensive tool to store on the shelf?

STOP NOW !!!!!

Almost all, if not all, generic DTC readers do not read the Ford specific DTC's.

Save your money and get FORScan and a vLinker FS cable and you will have a system that is as close to a Ford main dealers equipment as you can get, all for less than £50 including the licence.

FORScan:

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

Now regarding the TPMS. The batteries in all 4 of your 2015 cars wheels will be at the end of there life, so you may as well replace them all and do the job just once.

You programme them once they have been fitted and the wheels are back on the car.

RE the cable does it matter what cable is purchased. The 2 you linked to one is £29 and the other £74. Do they do the same job in effect?

Are there specific Forscan forums / threads on here which detail some sort of user guide, or is it a case of plug in and have a play?

The two cables do the same thing.

I personally use the vLinker FS cable and have found it to work excellently.

FORScan is to a large extent something you will pick up as you use it. If you have a specific question then just ask here or once you have bought a FORScan licence you can ask them for any specific technical question.

A set of 4 TPMS sensors for your car is around £28 and an independent tyre fitting garage usually charge around £15 per wheel to fit them. Total job done for £88 plus the programming tool EL-50449 (as used by Ford mechanic's) £8.99 from Amazon.

Coming full circle on this.

I've purchased the TPMS sensor from Ford. They sold me an EV6T-1A180-DE

But my local tyre garage who have a Autel TPMS device says that for my ford it should be either an EV6T1-A180-CB / EV6T-1A150-CB or EV6T-1A180-DB. Do the last 2 digits matter??

They scanned my 4 tyres and 2 registered straight away on the device showing the pressure, the ID and the battery status (low on both). The new sensor (was previously told 1 had failed) that has not yet been fitted does not scan on the device at all.

I also tried doing the "re-learn" on the car with the relearn tool (EL-50449) with it the new sensor "outside of the tyre" but it didn't result in that particular wheel being learnt. Does fitting it to the wheel somehow activate the battery which would then allow the re-learn tool to "activate" it and code it to the car? (I.E does a change in pressure wakes the battery to avoid it going flat whilst on the shelf etc??)

I've also been into the car using Forscan and it correctly shows those 2 sensors on the back tyres with their last known value at TPMS rest (presume the rest of tyre pressures via the steering wheel) as well as the current PSI values. It also shows the 2 sensors that are not picking up and their PSI values and current values are the same (both are wrong as i've let pressure out of them.

Any help most appreciated.

Hate to think how much the Ford dealer charged you for the sensor 🙁

Part EV6T-1A180-DE which you just bought is the same part as EV6T-1A180-DB that your local garage is saying you should have. The last letter 'E' is just a newer revision of part 'B'

To make TPMS sensors easy to identify Ford put a big white:- Square, Circle, Triangle, or Cross on the back of the part. So long as you replace like for like, you should be fine.

A couple of examples below:

Triangle.JPG

£31 for the privilege.

Its got a big sqaure on it but not sure what the original sensor has on it. Would have to take the wheel off and get my local tyre place to take a look. Any idea why the sensor hasn't woken up? Does it need to be fitted to a tyre and then inflated to activate the battery.

The relearn tool isn't activating the sensor without fitting it. Will it only activate it once its been fitted to the tyre?

I assume there is something within it that only activates it once it reaches a certain psi otherwise the battery could lose its charge sat on a shelf or warehouse until it's sold.

Update on this.

I put the sensor in a manual pressure sprayer and pumped it up. It didn't work at first so I pumped it some more and tried to get a reading using the Autel TS508WF and got a reading of 29.8 psi, temperature of 20°C, the ID and a good reading on the battery.

The battery on TPMS sensors must be pressure activated. Makes sense otherwise the battery could be discharging whilst it's sat in a warehouse awaiting sale.
