I guess it's a question that's not directly related to a Ford Focus but it's a Ford related question. I went onto "Compare instant servicing deals" and came across Secret Service Bromley Ford. I immediately thought it was a Ford dealership but apparently it isn't?. I wanted to get an oil and filter change and an MOT . The price for both is £190.78. I then thought I should try my local dealership in Wimbledon. They said that the oil and filter change and MOT would cost £209 +£50= £279. That's a huge difference.

Can anyone vouch for the dealerships on the instant servicing deals, please?

Bromley Ford is a franchised dealership and should carry out Ford services correctly.  Now called Vertu since they've dropped the Bristol Street Motors name.

The secret services are genuine, but sadly only offered in a few areas.

Many Thanks Tom. That's comforting to know. It's a bit further away than where I had hoped to travel to but I shall give it a go

I've used the one in Durham, which at the time was Bristol Street Ford.

Same service carried out by the same mechanics using the same parts and more than £100 cheaper than booking direct.

Thanks for that., I was all geared up to using them at £190.78 for the Oil and Filter change and MOT but then I came across the 10th garage on the list, called Yan Motors and they are charging £140.24. I will give them a ring and depending on which engine oil they say they will use, I will also ask the Secret Service at Vertu motors the same question. I do wish to use the oil that Ford recommend and use the Ford oil filter too. I shall then make up my mind. I might consider asking both if I could buy the recommended oil and filter, myself and supply both. I shall then ask if their prices will reflect the fact that I am purchasing. I should have done this before and not left things till the last moment.

P.s Is there anything else that I should consider purchasing, please?

Most chain garages won't fit customer supplied parts due to the warranty they offer.  Even independents often refuse that nowadays.

If this is for a 2022 1.0EB Focus then it should be a 3rd year service, so nothing more than oil & oil filter this time.  You can choose to have the cabin air filter changed if you like.

Next year (4th) should be engine air filter, spark plugs and brake fluid in addition to the above.

Many Thanks again Tom. I understand where you are coming from. I am not sure if the car is a 2022 1.0 EB Focus. I do know it's a 2020 plate Titanium 1 litre EB. I shall ask both garages what oil they use and how much more the genuine oil and filter will cost me as I want to stay with the recommended. I shall see how much a cabin filter costs and decide then but I am seriously considering that in about 6 to 8 months that I will change to a Toyota CHR or Yaris ?

If it's a 2020 plate then it can't also be a 2022 plate.  5th year service is the same as 3rd year service though, so it doesn't really matter for this purpose.

I would expect Bromley Ford to be using genuine Ford Castrol.  Yan Motors looks like an independent so they might not.

They'll probably charge around £30 to change the cabin filter.  If you can't smell it and haven't noticed a reduction in airflow through the vents then I wouldn't bother changing it myself.  You could buy one for around £10 and change it yourself if desired.  Easy to reach behind the glovebox on Mk4s.

Easy enough to tell by looking at the numberplate, one would have thought!😀

Yes Eric, my car's a Focus 2020 plate and a Titanium EB and my son's car's a 2022 plate ST Line EB.

Thanks Tom for the info. I shall ensure the knowledge is put to good use. I shall contact both garages re the oil and filter change and MOT.
