Ford Fusion 2004 Cabin intake blocked. Also AC not engaging

Featured Replies

Hi.

Anyone familiar with problems with an blocked air intake that prevents the blower fan from sucking in fresh air to the cabin? Air flow very limited in normal mode but not in recirculation mode

I've had this problem for the last 3 years or so, it resulted in a blown fan resistor and eventually worn out blower fan both which were replaced this winter but that did not solve the issue, fan still overloaded and noisy and has to be run in recirc. mode to work properly. Naturally i have replaced the cabin filter, the old one still looked OK.

I suspect clogged intake pre blower fan, perhaps in the firewall crossing or perhaps there is some sort of intake valve malfunctioning? Anyone familiar with this and how to access this and check (is this done properly from cabin or engine bay)?

Also trouble with AC not engaging, the button lights up and then switches of, nothing happens. Is this a malfunction in the AC-engagment clutch or some sort of relay-switch? Or is it the button itself needing replacement.

Thanks in advance, all help appreciated!

Remove the scuttle panel and check the intake from outside.  It's probably clogged with leaves.

As Tom says.

Remove wiper arms, unclip scuttle panel and clean out the intake.  I do my Fusion and Fiesta annually as my drive is under trees.  You may need a puller to get the wiper arms off.

This air intake on the scuttle is prone to clogging if not kept clean.

There is a drain flap underneath, but if the detritus builds up, it's in active, the water then builds up & flows into the cabin via the air intake.

It's a favourite entry for mice, I had 2 nests in the engine bay, one known area is behind the brake master cylinder & under the battery.

If you've got traces of straw or barley seeds, it's mice.

Hi guys, thanks for helpful answers to the topic, i'll disasemble the scuttle panel like you said, just  a little bit bigger project than anticipated:-)

Back to the AC button with ligthning switching of a couple of seconds after pushing and AC not engaging, failure within button itself or relay/engagement clutch?

The AC gas pressure is too low. The system will not run the compressor with low gas pressure to protect it from damage.

Get the system re-gassed.
