Ford Focus Zetec 1.6L Mk1 BOOT LATCH (which one)

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have a problem that my car keys were so worn out that they were having trouble opening both front door locks, bonnet, boot . I bought a complete set of clyinders  (which were supplied with two new keys, moved the transponder over and all works so far) and have so far replaced the bonnet, petrol and ignition cylinders. I just attempted the boot lock today. The boot would not open at all with the key so I went from the inside and took of the boot panel trim, somehow i managed to move the locking catch by pressing with a screwdriver and the the key turned a little (had my old man on the outside) and the boot opened. I took the lock out and had to cut off the existing cylinder (just the corner) to release the spring and plunger that lock it into place.

I was going to put the new cylinder i bought as part of the set into the new lock, however i actually think the lock it self is faulty. When i use a star head screwdriver to turn the mechanism it doesnt do much. If i force a rod where the lock catch is it does push in and snap shut (as it would when the boot would get shut and catch on the latch), however the screwdrier doesnt unlock it.

Having been looking online for replacement lop. I see there are plenty of used examples and a few new ones for sale (new ones around £75, used around half price). The trouble is i am seeing two variants and wonder if ford modified the lock mechanism at some point. Here are two links to demonsrate

This one below looks exactly like mine and has the connector for the boot release. My boot release doesnt work as it stands.

There are other ones that have an extra lead but also say they are for Ford MK1 such as

Does anyone know what that extra lead is for? On first thoughts i was hoping ford had introduced a variation where you could manually open the boot (which i cant on mine) if the key/remote fob/dashboard release did not work.

Any guidance as to what is the right part for my vehicle would be appreciated.

Thanks

Raji

The first link is for the early models (probably yours) which has the lock cylinder directly mounted to the latch system.

The second link is for later models which had the lock cylinder positioned separately away from the latch. The 'cable' gets connected to the lock.

Thanks @unofix

Does anyone know if there is any difference between the part numbers YS4A-43102-AD and YS4A-43102-FE.

A number of online sellers have the part that looks like mine. Most seem to of the FE variety. Just wondered if the were the same thing, FE and AD and Ford just upgraded some internals etc.

Does anyone know how one can find out please?

They are not the same thing and are very unlikely to be interchangeable.

If yours is the YS4A-43102-AD  then only the very last letter can be different.

You can use AD, AE, AE, AF, AG, AH  etc. etc.

It's never a good idea to use older versions like AB, or AC as they were probably replaced because of redesigns.

Hi thanks for the link, i had already messaged this seller. Unfortunately the seller does not have a key and is not prepared to refund me if the lock does not work when i take the existing cylinder off. You need to literally hacksaw the corner off the cylinder housing as there is a spring and pin which locks the cylinder housing to the main body of the lock. Once that is released, then the cylinder housing can turn and come off. Only then you can check if the lock is working (im prepared for anyone to tell me otherwise if there is another way).
