Glow Plug DTC Error but Car is running/starting fine.

Featured Replies

As title! So, yesterday I ran the Forscan program to diagnose my car. But it gives an error P138b-62 as seen on the picture. No check engine light whatsoever. I changed Glow Plug Relay on the Fuse Box but the problem still exist in Forscan and the car runs and starts very well. But in the dashboard Glow Plug Relay Logo won't show up or shows in secs and dissapears very quickly. Is this problem serious?

Glow plugs aren't needed for starting common rail engines in summer temperatures.  The light on the dash is not directly connected to them, it is purely timed by the ECU.

The glow plugs are likely to be pulsed on and off for the first few minutes of running, to reduce exhaust emissions.  And if you have a DPF, they can be used during DPF regen as well.

This fault is likely to be caused by one or more faulty glowplugs.  Next test is to check resistance through all 4 plugs.  Or you can try just replacing them if you don't want to test.

You can be right. But car is running fine and starts fine. But relay logo on dashboard disappears very quickly i noticed that in cold weather doing that. But as i said starts very normal and driving is smooth. Idk i'll see this winter how its going to be.

If you don't follow the advice above to check for excessive current caused by 1 or more glowplugs being faulty or something else, then there may be a failure in future at an inconvenient time.
Your choice of course but you did ask if it is serious and it may not be yet but...
