Ford Focus Mk4 Titanium x - Interior ambient lighting dim?

Featured Replies

Hi,

The interior lighting on my model is extremely dim, i would not have know if it even had any if it was not for seeing the spec online. Its controlled by the same buttons that increases the dash and instrument cluster highlighting, and its set to max. It this normal?

Also, can someone please check my vin/reg for the spec/as build ?

Many Thanks
Habib

Ambient lighting is supposed to provide ambience.  It's not meant to be bright.

Yeah, i get that, but the fact that it is barley noticeable unless pointed out kind of defeats the point if it is not providing ambiance

It never gets very dark in the summer, even during the night. You will notice it more when the winter nights are here.

Is your profile correct ?

This is for a Focus 2015.

This is for a Focus 2020.

Brightness adjustment is controlled by the Sync3 screen settings.

Sounds normal, took me a few weeks to notice it on the first Focus I had with it, 2008 model.

To avoid future guessing it would be a good idea to correct your profile which says 2015

According to Ford ALL Focus 2018/2019 built from October 2018 onwards and that have the factory fitted ambient lighting option, control it from the Sync3 screen.

Ford are wrong. My May 2019 built Titanium that was built for me so has not been modified with single colour Ambient Lighting does not have that and my Vin Specific Owners Manual does not show the option that is shown in the Non Vin Specific Manual.

Who would have thought it ! 🤣🤣

Thanks for the correct information. 👍

I think I've found out that if your car has Map Reading Lamps all round then you can't control the Ambient Lighting, but you can if you don't have Map Reading Lights.

The reason I say this is because when I switched the Vin Filter off on my owners Manual the Ambient Lighting Control appeared as per the Generic Manual, along with the option for Vehicles without Ambient Lighting, which isn't there on my Vin Specific version, so Ford are half right.

The system on the Focus Mk3.5 seems to have been the easiest. Two buttons and a knob on the overhead panel.

My Ranger has multi-coloured ambient lighting which is controlled from the Sync3 screen but the display is not the same as the Focus. To be honest I didn't realise at first that I could change the brightness by dragging the lollipop icon up and down the pole.

I rather like my single colour non controllable Ambient Lighting. It's subtle and is the correct brightness for when it is properly dark.

Ford must have thought that if someone was using one of the Map Lights they may get distracted by the potentially overly bright Ambient Lighting.

PS Do you think we have bored everyone who don't care about Ambient Lighting now🤣

Yes.

What is the vin filter? Can i enter my vin somewhere and get the spec? Thank You

If you download the Owners Manual for your VIN there is a tick box to switch the VIN Filter on or off. If you switch it off you will get the generic version of the Manual.

It does not give you the Spec but does cut out some things that you don't have and maybe adds others.
