Head Gasket Replacement / Repair Cost?

Featured Replies

Hi, new member here! (Didn't know about this forum until now).

Was wondering if anybody has had their head gasket replaced recently? I'm suspecting it's gone, although the car has only just clocked over 65000 miles, which is annoying. I had an issue with the coolant loss about a year ago, but that was because the pump was leaking and was replaced, but it seems the coolant issue is still present...

What's the sort of average for a 2012 1.25 Fiesta head gasket? I'm going to be taking it to an independent that's been looking after my cars for a while now, and a trust completely, but he's not open until Friday, so I'd like to know what I'm in for.

Thanks!

Generally £500 to £600.

If the cylinder head needs to be skimmed you will be looking at £1000 for the job.

As above, looking at mimimum £500-600 in a garage. Have you checked for any obvious signs of leaks? The thermostat housing under the inlet manifold is a common place, especially if a cheap replacement has been used. The bottom of coolant bottle can crack if its previously got really hot also and slowly seep down the inner wing.

The prices aren't crazy expensive to be fair. Colleague of mine said his was £3500 last year so I was worried. Perhaps he just got ripped off...

I had a brief look, no obvious wet patches on parts / under the car like when the pump was leaking.

Limped the car home on water (I drained it now, I know water's bad) and just left it to cool off this evening.

If a cheap replacement part has been used in the past, I'm not surprised. I've already replaced a cheap fuel pump that was knackered, and there's a welding bodge job in the boot that needs redoing (I'm no welder).

None of your post is of relevance to the OP's engine.
