1.6TDCi diesel smell and soot - injectors?

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I have a 2011 1.6TDCi fiesta that has been having a few issues over the last few months. I’m absolutely dreading the cause but was wondering if anyone has had similar issues? Hoping and praying that it’s not the injectors, but I don’t really know what else it could be!

So far I have noticed:

- More soot out of the exhaust. I have staining on the back of the car. Occasionally puffs out a nice cloud of black smoke when accelerating, however this is not consistent.

- Rough idle when cold, and occasionally a rough start - mostly when cold.

- Strong diesel smell when starting the engine.

- EML came on once and flashed a few times, however the battery light was already on due to a smart-charging issue, and the airbag light due to wiring, so I don’t know if it is 100% related. No misfire detected by myself, also no code stored by the car that shows on my OBD.

The car has recently had the oil filter changed and has been serviced consistently since 2011 - no real gaps in service history and had only missed one with me due to being SORN for a year. The DPF was checked by myself and a mechanic when the soot and black smoke first started, however this was clear and was diagnosed as the DPF self-clearing. I have had a fair few non-related issues (alternator bearing is on its way out, smart charging failure, tensioner belt handed in the towel the other day for the aux belt and a wiring issue causing the air bag light to come on to name a few - keeping eurocarparts in business single-handedly this year!). To say I’m dreading another bill for it is an understatement lol. I was just hoping for any insight or words of wisdom/encouragement from yourselves as the garage cannot get it in for at least a month 😌

Thank you in advance,

Miah
