2005 Transit Connect 1.8TDCI with MTX-75 box, which clutch?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just starting a project to put a recon engine into my connect, with upgraded turbo, mapped to 125hp? and with a MTX-75 gearbox from a Focus Mk2 (as recommended on various forums)

As we hope to have a lot more HP and torque than the original I am looking for a stronger clutch, but am struggling to get suppliers to confirm what fits, in my mind either a Connect or Focus clutch should fit.

I thought this one, pic attached, from larkspeed would be the one but they don't think so and are on about needing a custom one!??

Has anyone fitted the MTX-75 box, if so what clutch

Any thoughts and guidance greatly appreciated

It also depends on what flywheel you are planning to use.

The 1.8 TDCI in a Focus MK2/MK2.5 uses a dual mass flywheel.
The 1.8 TDCI in a Transit Connect uses a solid flywheel.

The dual mass flywheel and solid flywheel clutches are not interchangeable.

It is a known fact that the solid flywheel reduces the life expectancy of the MTX75 transmission. Therefore, the dual mass flywheel might be a better choice.

Hi Wilco

Thanks for the info, really appreciated

I was going to stick with the solid flywheel due to increased torque (hopefully) and so engine would be more responsive. Gearbox is just about to be stripped, checked and rebuilt so fingers crossed it will have a good few years before any issues appear.

Still not sure why larkspeed were talking about bespoke, but think i will take a punt and get the Stage 2 Connect clutch kit, and see if there is any upgrade for the CSC
