2015 s-max overheating and loosing water

Featured Replies

Hi all

so over the last few weeks I’ve had issues with my (2015 s-max titanium sport 2.0L manual diesel) overheating an loosing water.

there is no sign of leaks, no sign of water in the oil, no smells from the header and no water out the exhaust so it’s not the head gasket

when the car overheats I’ve pulled over and been able to open the cap and the water rushes back in the drops. It’s using 4-5L of water every 300 ish miles so nearly the full system,

has anyone had the same issue?

Tomorrow I’m going to check the fan and wiring, the water pump, check for blockages

any help is appreciated!!!

Thanks

Dan

None of those tests are conclusive to rule out headgasket.  Get a CO2 sniff done if you want to be sure.

The reason the water rushes back is because there's a large airlock in the system.  This is usually created in the same area as the water has leaked out from.  It won't be an issue with the fan or any blockages.  Something is leaking.  Most likely thermostat housing or EGR cooler.
