Fix or scrap plus garage recommendations Cardiff

Featured Replies

Would you fix or scrap.  There is also a leak in the boot.  If fix any garage recommendations?

  • Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (3.5 (a))

it washes rear screen but not the windscreen

  • Offside Steering rack gaiter missing or no longer prevents the ingress of dirt split (2.1.3 (g) (ii))
  • Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn rear bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))
  • Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn rear bush (5.3.4 (a) (i))

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

  • Oil leak, but not excessive sump plug (8.4.1 (a) (i))
  • Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
  • Rear Sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i))
  • Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
  • Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases joint center pipe (6.1.2 (a))
  • Nearside reverse light lens insecure

The steering rack gaiter national tyres cannot get.  Ford can get.

Should be able to repair the fails for under £250 at a garage.  It's just two wishbones and a steering rack boot.  You can buy generic rack gaiters to cut down to size if the genuine Ford one is too expensive.

I'd ignore most of those advisories.  Except for the rear subframe corrosion.  I wouldn't trust the MOT testers judgement on that being 'not seriously weakened', as it can be hard to tell while fitted to the car.  I would seriously consider whether you feel safe driving a car with a potentially weakened subframe, especially if you carry kids in the car.  I would still have the fails repaired though, as the car could be sold with a fresh MOT rather than scrapped.

The quotes without the gater National Tyres £350.

Gaiter with Ford non Ford part £450.
