Ford Focus 2019 purchase advice

Featured Replies

Hello everyone ,

My name is Jesper from the Netherlands and I’m not yet a Ford owner, but I’m looking to buy a used Ford Focus. So far, I teat driven two. Both with the 1.0 Ecoboost engines. I hope some of you can give me some advice on these.

1. ST Line Business.

94.000 km

Manufactured: 01/2019

Serviced by different Ford dealers

2. ST Line Business

87.000 km

Manufactured: 05/2019

Was exported from Spain to The Netherlands after 5 months. Not Serviced by Ford dealers.

VIN: WF0NXXGCHNKE19483

The salesman of the 1st Focus said that focus has a timing belt engine. I got a bit confused after I drove the 2nd Focus where I asked the salesman about the timing belt. He said that it does not has a belt but a chain. After I did some research on the internet, I found out about the update since 2019, but I still can’t figure out if they have a belt or a chain.

I tried https://www.fordserviceinfo.com/FreeResources/Free

and

https://www.fordzona.sk/his/index.php

With the VIN of the 2nd one I could not find any info on the timing of this one.

I understand that you can indicate a belt or chain with the position of the turbo and the belt/chain cover on the side.

I hope someone can give me some advice on this.

apologies my bad English,

br,

Jesper

Hi,

Those both have a timing chain.  But still have a wetbelt to drive the oil pump.  So it is both chain and belt.

Hello Jesper,

The Mk 4 Focus used the chain cam drive engine with a wet belt for the oil pump drive. This is the engine in the silver car. The grey one should look the same if you can lift the bonnet.

Thank you guys for the quick response!

Unfortunately I didn’t make a photo of the engine bay of the grey one.

With this information in mind I am leaning towards the silver one because of the dealer service history.

Do the wet belts for the oil pump still have issues?

Br,

jasper
